What happens when you combine a love of baseball, an award-winning independent film and the always-unpredictable Bill “Spaceman” Lee? You get a pretty memorable afternoon!
On Saturday, October 10, the BoSox Club stepped away from Fenway Park and into the historic Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts, for a special celebration of baseball, movies and the stories that make America’s pastime so special.

The main attraction was a screening of Eephus, an award-winning independent baseball film shot in Douglas, Massachusetts. The movie celebrates the relationships, traditions and shared experiences that keep people coming back to the diamond, long after their dreams of playing in the big leagues have faded. It’s a film that reminds us that baseball is about much more than wins, losses and box scores.
And for a room full of baseball fans, it was a perfect fit.
The Spaceman Lands in Arlington
Of course, no baseball event featuring Bill “Spaceman” Lee would be complete without a few unexpected twists and turns.
The former Red Sox pitcher, Red Sox Hall of Famer and longtime fan favorite has a cameo appearance in Eephus. But his starring role on this particular afternoon came after the credits rolled.

Lee joined members of the film’s cast and crew for a lively question-and-answer session, bringing his trademark wit, colorful observations and seemingly endless supply of baseball stories to the Regent stage.
Anyone who has spent time around the Spaceman knows that you never quite know where the conversation will go. That’s part of the fun. Whether recalling his playing days or offering his unique take on the game, Lee has a way of keeping an audience entertained.
And this afternoon was no exception.
Behind the Scenes of Eephus
Joining Lee for the post-film conversation were Arlington native and actor Stephen Radochia, associate producer Kevin Fisher and actor Peter Lund, whose son, Carson, directed the film.
The discussion gave attendees a chance to hear from some of the people who helped bring Eephus to life and learn more about the making of a baseball movie with strong New England roots.
The film’s themes of friendship, community and the passage of time struck a familiar chord. After all, baseball has a special way of connecting generations, creating memories and bringing people together.
Following the Q&A, fans had another opportunity to connect with the guests during an autograph session, adding a personal touch to an already special afternoon.
A Different Kind of BoSox Club Event

The afternoon was a bit of a departure from the BoSox Club’s traditional luncheons and baseball gatherings, but it was very much in keeping with what the club is all about: celebrating New England baseball and the people, personalities and stories that make the game special.
From the big screen to the Regent stage to the autograph session afterward, the event offered something for baseball fans and movie lovers alike.
And with Bill Lee in the house, there was never much danger of things getting boring!
Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Regent Theatre, our friends at the theatre, and the Eephus cast and crew for helping make this unique BoSox Club event possible.
As Eephus reminds us, baseball isn’t just about the game. It’s about the friendships, memories and stories we take with us long after the final out.
And sometimes, it’s about spending an afternoon at the movies with the Spaceman.
